Microsoft-backed artificial intelligence startup OpenAI has integrated its AI-powered chatbot into Meta’s instant messaging app WhatsApp as part of its “12 days of OpenAI” announcements. According to OpenAI’s most recent introduction video, users can interact with ChatGPT directly on WhatsApp without requiring an additional app or account.
Although OpenAI has made this connection available worldwide, consumers in the US can now contact ChatGPT by calling 1-800-CHATGPT (1-800-242-8478). To facilitate natural language interactions, the phone call feature makes use of Advanced Voice Mode. According to OpenAI, this feature makes ChatGPT accessible even in areas without internet access.
In an apparent move to increase its advertising budget to expand its user base, OpenAI recently appointed its first chief marketing officer. The company launched a search feature in ChatGPT in October, putting it in a stronger position to take on Google, Microsoft’s Bing, and Perplexity.
As the company competes with Amazon-backed Anthropic, Elon Musk’s xAI, Google, Meta, Microsoft, and Amazon in the quickly growing generative artificial intelligence market—which is expected to reach $1 trillion in revenue within ten years—all of this is a part of OpenAI’s rapid growth strategy.
In October, OpenAI concluded its most recent round of fundraising at a $157 billion valuation. A $4 billion revolving line of credit was also given to the company, thereby increasing its total liquidity to almost $10 billion.
ChatGPT on WhatsApp: Details
Sending a message to 1-800-242-8478 on WhatsApp allows users to start a chat with ChatGPT. As an alternative, users of WhatsApp can scan a QR code found on OpenAI’s support page.
Users do not need to sign in to an OpenAI account to use the service. OpenAI is working to introduce an account login option, though, so that the WhatsApp chatbot can provide more individualized responses.
On WhatsApp, ChatGPT shows up as a Business Account and only allows text messaging at this time; audio calls are not supported. Additionally, OpenAI has set a daily usage cap for WhatsApp’s ChatGPT. The corporation claimed that it may modify these limits depending on system capacity, even though the precise limit has not been made public. As users get close to the daily limit, they will receive a notification.
