Today, WhatsApp revealed that users can now record and share short, personal videos directly within chats. The messaging app claims that the introduction of voice messages, which allowed people to share their voices quickly and securely , revolutionized communication.
As a result, it is currently building on this functionality by introducing instant video messages. The feature comes in handy situations when a user has to send a long message because writing a lengthy note can be a tedious task as it consumes a lot of time and effort.
“Video messages are a real-time way to respond to chats with whatever you want to say and show in 60 seconds,” WhatsApp wrote in a blog post. “We think these will be a fun way to share moments with all the emotion that comes from video, whether it’s wishing someone a happy birthday, laughing at a joke, or bringing good news.”
How to send a video message
To send a video clip, users currently have to hit the “Camera” icon on the message bar, choose the “video” option, record a clip, and then send it to the user or group. Users can now select a video by tapping the microphone button next to the message box.
The video button can then be tapped while being held down to record a video. WhatsApp will instantly send the video to the user or group when you release your thumb. Users can swipe left to cancel the recording, much like when sending an audio clip.
Users can also swipe up to lock and keep recording the video hands-free if they wish to shoot a lengthy video. The front camera can be used to send videos due to a camera swap option. Additionally, when a video is accessed in a chat, it automatically plays on mute. Tapping the video will activate the sound.
In the following weeks, all users will be able to access the new functionality, which is rolling out starting today.
The launch of the latest feature comes with WhatsApp’s recent addition of several new features to its program. Recently, the company introduced a technology that automatically mutes calls from unknown numbers. Additionally, it gave users to make changes to a message within 15 minutes of sending it. Also, it is reported that WhatsApp is developing usernames.
