Major strides have been witnessed worldwide in embracing the artificial intelligence (AI) landscape, which is constantly changing. The rapid growth of AI has raised worries as well, with innovations like ChatGPT and Google Bard seamlessly integrating into millions of people’s lives.

These concerns have led industry groups and experts to advocate for regulations that will ensure the responsible and prudent utilization of AI innovations.

Microsoft has revealed its five-point plan for governing AI in India at a time when the world is eager to realize AI’s boundless potential. Brad Smith, vice chair and president of Microsoft, published a preface on his blog for the company’s paper titled “Governing AI: A Blueprint For India.”

Smith posted a link to the blog post stating the tech giant’s introduction of a 5-point plan for governing AI in India on his X(formerly Twitter) account. He said that to make sure that AI serves everyone, the company’s approach addresses both established and emerging issues and offers strategies for public-private partnerships. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella later posted Smith’s tweet.

Smith’s claim was supported by Nadella, who stated that the firm was focused on developing and deploying AI in a transparent, secure, and safe manner to help expand prospects both within and outside of India.

Microsoft on governing AI for India

The first part of Smith’s blog post outlines five possible AI-related policies, laws, and regulations for India. The second part emphasizes Microsoft’s commitment to moral AI by outlining how it fosters a culture of ethical AI. The second part shows case studies from India that demonstrate how AI is helping to address some major social problems.

Microsoft suggests five policy suggestions for AI governance in the blog post. These ideas include measures like establishing legislative frameworks, establishing safety frameworks, encouraging transparency, and forming public-private partnerships. The importance of international cooperation and multilateral frameworks for the efficient governance of AI is also emphasized in the post.

The five-point guide for AI governance is listed below:

  • Implement and expand new, government-led AI safety protocols.
  • Require AI systems in charge of crucial infrastructure to have effective safety brakes.
  • Develop a broader set of regulations and laws based on the technology architecture of AI.
  • Promote transparency and make sure that the public and academic community may access AI.
  • To effectively solve the societal challenges that come with new technologies, pursue new public-private partnerships.
