Apple’s decision to maintain older iPhones compatible may be seen as a part of a larger trend. Following the same list as iOS 17, which had eliminated the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X from the lineup, iOS 18 also kept support for all devices. Users may find it easier to keep their devices for longer without feeling abandoned as a result of this change. For iPad users, the news is a little less encouraging.

iOS 19 Supported Devices

The French website iPhoneSoft.fr says that all iPhones running iOS 18 will be able to run the impending iOS 19. In addition, the iPhone 15 series, which includes the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max, will support the following models: iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max.

Additionally, the iPhone 14 lineup – iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max — will also be included. Older models such as the iPhone 13 series (iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max), iPhone 12 series (iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max), and even the iPhone 11 series (iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max) will get iOS 19.

Other devices like the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, and iPhone SE (2nd generation or later) will also be compatible with Apple’s next-generation OS update. It is important to note that the iPhone X series was released in September 2018.

Additionally, 19 iOS features are expected to be unavailable on older iPhone models. According to this claim, Apple has not dropped support for iPhone models with its main annual iOS release for the second consecutive year. The same iPhone models that support iOS 17 can also run iOS 18.

The iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X were no longer supported with iOS 17. The news for iPadOS 19 is not favorable because it is expected that support for the iPad 7 (2019) will be discontinued. All other iPads running iPadOS 18 will be compatible with the upcoming upgrade, according to the report.

iOS 19 Release Date

According to the source, the iPhone manufacturer is probably going Apple release the initial beta versions of iOS 19 and iPadOS 19 in June during WWDC 2025, with the full updates expected in September.

Although not much is currently known about iOS 19, it is rumored that Siri will become more conversational, much like ChatGPT. This upgrade is expected in iOS 19.4, which might be released in March 2026.
